Direct input is a data entry form that does not use a keyboard to input data. Today, more data and instructions are entered a CPU of microcomputers directly using direct input devices used to provide a more natural user interface. These entry devices reduce users' typing errors. While direct input is an advanced fourth generation data entry form, voice input (speech input) is the mode of next generation input technology.
Light Pen
A light pen is a light-sensitive pen-like device used by pointing it at the display surface. A user brings the light pen to the desired point on the screen and presses a button, causing it to identify the current location. It is used to select options from a menu or to draw images.
Digitizer Tablet
A digitizer tablet is also called a graphics tablet or just a digitizer. The digitizer is a drawing tablet used to sketch new images or trace old drawing or photograph. The user uses a pen-like device called a cursor to draw images. Designers and architects usually use digitizers. Light pen and digitizer technologies are used for pen-based computing.
Bar Code Readers
A bar code is a specialized code represented by sets of parallel bars of varying thickness and separation. This is used for fast identification of items with an optimal scanner. The optical scanner is called a bar code reader. The bar code reader is a photoelectric scanner that read the bar code.
Output devices
Output devices are pieces of computer hardware that allow a computer system to communicate information to a user or another system. This information can be in any form, and includes sound, images, and even tactile experiences. Output devices can usually only be used to send data from the computer; items called input devices allow users and other systems to send data to the computer.
Modem
A modem (modulator-demodulator) is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information. The goal is to produce a signal that can be transmitted easily and decoded to reproduce the original digital data.
Image Projector
An image projector is an Optical device that projects an image (or moving images) onto a surface, commonly a projection screen. Most projectors creates an image by shining a light through a small transparent image, but some newer types of projectors can project the image directly, by using lasers. A virtual retinal display, or retinal projector, is a projector that projects an image directly on theretina instead of using an external projection screen.
Storage Device
A computer storage device is any type of hardware that stores data. The most common type of storage device, which nearly all computers have, is a hard drive. The computer's primary hard drive stores the operating system, applications, and files and folders for users of the computer.
Floppy Drive
A Floppy Drive is a device that allows your computer to read floppy disks.
In the past there were three types of floppy drives. The first type was a 10" floppy. The second was a 5 1/4" floppy. Both of these floppies were flexible media in a flexible jacket.
The third and most commonly used floppy today is the 3 1/2" floppy disk. This disk can hold up to 1.44 MB of data on it. Even though it is encased in a hard plastic cover, it still uses flexible media.
By default the first floppy drive is shown as the A: drive on your PC computer.

Alternatively referred to as a display adapter, graphics card, video adapter, video board, or a video controller, a video card is aninternal circuit board that allows a display device such as a monitor to display images from the computer.
Chip set
A group of computer chips or integrated circuits (ICs) that, when working together, manage and control the computer system. This set includes the CPU and other chips that control the flow of data throughout the system.
